Designers Junko Jinushi and Kyoko Kato established the company in 1991. They each worked in textiles before meeting through mutual magazine work.

Just as how antipasto inspires and readies one to have great expectations for the main dish to come in Italian cuisine, ANTIPAST is named to perform in the same manner with respect to fashion.

ANTIPAST also signifies “ANTI-PAST.” The brand name represents their ideas toward the production of original items which inspire creativity and arouse excitement in wearing.
